Some of Me & Torn Apart
”Some of Me” is about recognizing the allure of something that’s ultimately not good for you and having the strength to walk away. It explores the tension between attraction and self-preservation, and the emotional struggle of maintaining distance even when it feels hard.
”Torn Apart” was written on a summer day, sitting on a park bench after one of those typical arguments in a relationship that isn’t working. The breakup at the time tore me apart, but looking back, it was a turning point that ultimately made me stronger.
I’m not asking & Pictures and Words
”I’m Not Asking” is about finding yourself again after a breakup. It’s about reaching a point where you’re so done with someone that you’re no longer asking anything of them. It’s about the desire to finally be yourself again, leaving a toxic relationship behind.
”Pictures and Words” captures the bittersweet feeling of holding onto memories while struggling to move forward. The song is a reflection on the tension between nostalgia and the need for release, ultimately embracing the difficult but necessary process of moving on.
Nanana & There for You
One song about being forced to move on and another about having someone there for you.
When I See You Holding Her Hand & What For
”When I See You Holding Her Hand” is about witnessing the person you thought you would be with, now with someone else. It explores the heavy feelings of rejection and the bittersweet hope of what could have been.
”What For” was written as I was heading home on the bus, and a series of events had a direct impact on my emotions at the time. I felt so incredibly lonely. I felt the anxiety eating me up inside. I couldn’t shake that feeling that you get, when you try so hard, but all you feel is that you’re not enough.
I Couldn’t Stay & Standing
”I Couldn’t Stay” is the title track of my debut album, and it’s about the painful decision to leave a relationship that’s tearing you apart. The song reflects the exhaustion of endless arguments and fights, a pattern that is not healthy for either person.
”Standing” is a song about saying ”I love you” to someone for the first time and not hearing it back. I wrote most of the lyrics in the middle of the night while we were already recording songs for my first album. At that point, I had already decided which songs should be on the album. However, as I began composing it—first on my guitar and then on my computer—I knew I had to make room for this song.
We Just Didn’t Make It This Time
”We Just Didn’t Make It This Time” holds a special place in my heart, as it was the first song we recorded in the studio for my debut album. It’s about realizing that a relationship is over and the emotional journey that comes with it. Ultimately, the song is about trying to find your way forward after the breakup, even when it feels uncertain.
